I recently came across a preview for this documentary on my Facebook page and by just watching the preview I became emotional. “Dark Girls” is a documentary directed and produce by Bill Duke. “Dark Girls”, which made its debut in winter 2011, highlights the color, gender and race issues that darker skinned African American women struggle with globally on a daily basis. I must say that I have never blatantly experienced this kind of prejudice but being a coco complected woman I am sure that I have been discriminated against just because of that. Here at 101waystobeauty.com we do highlight physical beauty but it is also our goal to help people understand that beauty is not only an outward thing. Beauty can be and should be recognized and appreciated in every aspect of life, whether it be in nature, our families, in people or life as a whole. After watching this documentary preview I now see why so many people struggle with low self esteem and other personal issues. For those of us who know who we are and are ever so comfortable in the skin that we are in, it is our duty to help those who struggle with low self esteem and pride issues. I encourage everyone to take a look at this documentary and then take a look at yourself. Have you been judgmental of people who do not look like you?
